Welcome to Emerald Acres in Coombs!
We are a unique family-owned horse boarding facility where we strive for a healthy balance between natural living and controlled care for your special friend! Welcome to the “Emerald” difference!!! Our concept is that horses should enjoy their life between your visits. We offer a rare combination of benefits for one facility. EVERY horse here gets their own PRIVATE space, a large well-drained paddock 40x120′ (which is double the size of standard paddocks in this area) with a deluxe shelter or attached barn stall where they have 24/7 turnout, DAILY turnout service for the majority of the year (weather permitting) to large field pastures, and HEATED & FILTERED automatic water. We have an outdoor sand arena with LIGHTS, a large round pen with LIGHTS, and trails right off the property. And we offer a range of service options so that you can design a package that provides the best value for you. We have over 35 years of experience with horses so you can feel confident that your equine is in good hands.
We are located on 25 acres of beautiful land, and we are right off the highway so a very fast commute from all surrounding areas. You drive straight to us at highway speed, rather than spending time on winding country roads. We are 20 minutes from North Nanaimo, 7 minutes from Parksville, 5 minutes from Qualicum Beach, and 30 minutes from Port Alberni.
We offer TWO UNIQUE types of TURNOUT for our boarders – these options offer service & space that is very rare for a boarding facility. Turnout service is offered through most of the year (we do not turn out to the field pastures once the overnight temp is below 5 degrees due to sugar trapped in the grass).
It’s REAL TURNOUT, organized and consistent (weather permitting). We bring the horses into their large, private paddocks in the evening (where they receive their individualized food), and we turn them out every morning. They enjoy so much space and natural living all day long!! This is a huge amount of service that ensures all the horses here are very happy.
Option 1. Track with Field Turnout in small group (2-3 horses)
OR
Option 2. Private Pasture (large private field ~70x500+ )
Track With Field Turnout
This is a unique style of turnout where we have 2 horses (one group of 3 horses) on a short track that leads from their private paddocks to a large field pasture where they have space to roam together. The track and pastures are longer than they are wide, and they have automatic waterers out in the fields to encourage walking (which is a luxury for them to enjoy!!). They move over different terrain and have access to some trees which simulates natural living in the wild, while being able to come and go from their paddock spaces all day long.
This is an ideal environment for any horse to keep them from getting bored and to allow socialization, movement and natural living, while also not exposing them to a large group hierarchy and the risks that can create. We have invested in SO MUCH cross-fencing to keep the groups small. The pastures all run alongside each other, so the horses can see each other and feel part of a larger herd without actually running together in big groups of mayhem and chaos!! This is a balance of a huge amount of space, natural living, and controlled exposure that keeps them happy and allows them to exercise themselves! It’s so fun for the horses!!
Private Pasture
Our huge hayfield is separated into large PRIVATE pastures (aprx 70′ x 500’+) which attach directly to their PRIVATE paddock spaces by a gate that stays open all day, so they can come & go from their pasture to their paddock. We have invested in SO MUCH cross-fencing here!! These private fields offer a uniquely LARGE amount of space dedicated to one horse. This allows the horses to live freely while on their own, but also feeling part of a larger herd as the pastures are all in line so the horses can see each other. The private area is ideal for horses that show food aggression, mares who excite the boys, horses that don’t play well with others, horses with training issues, or for folks who just prefer their horse to be in its own area.
